Seventh Grade

Room 304 is a seventh grade homeroom and is used primarily for language arts and Spanish classes. In the language arts program, which includes reading, spelling, and English classes, there is a major emphasis on developing and strengthening the students' communication skills, both oral and written.  The students use novels and various genres of literature to increase the comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking abilities.  There is a strong focus on writing to incorporate the fundamentals of grammar with the development of a clear, effective writing style that will help students to communicate effectively across the curriculum. The Spanish program continues the acquisition of foreign language skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing that was begun in earlier grades.  Students use texts, workbooks and videos to build new Spanish vocabulary and they have many opportunities to practice the language both orally and in writing.  In addition to learning Spanish grammar and verb conjugations, the class also develops a knowledge and appreciation of the culture and customs of many Spanish-speaking countries and regions, and compares and contrasts foods, celebrations, and daily living activities with their own experiences in American culture.  Many of our students are able to begin their high school language course at the second year level.
